Mental health and social support are among the main foundations of the quality of life of the elderly. With aging, many individuals face problems such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, or even cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s. At Tohid Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Institute, psychological and social work services are designed both to improve the mental condition of the individual and to strengthen their connection with society and family.
Regular sessions with professional psychologists are held so that the elderly can talk about their concerns, memories, stress or emotional problems. In individual counseling, the focus is on the personal needs and problems of the elderly. In group counseling, the elderly experience a greater sense of empathy and belonging by being in a group. These sessions not only help reduce depression and anxiety but also increase self-confidence and improve the social relationships of the elderly.
Research shows that group activities reduce feelings of loneliness and increase the lifespan of the elderly. For this reason, various programs such as memory-enhancing games, friendly gatherings and storytelling for creating a warm atmosphere and cultural and artistic activities to increase creativity and joy are designed. These activities are not only entertaining but also help with focus, mental coordination and strengthening the social skills of the elderly.
Our social workers play the role of a communication bridge between the elderly, their families and the center. They follow up on the social and family issues of the elderly, provide advice to solve daily problems and create conditions in which the elderly always feel supported. Social work is especially important when the elderly face financial, legal or family problems.
Families are an important part of the lives of the elderly. Many tensions or misunderstandings between generations can be resolved through education and counseling. Family counseling sessions at the institute help family members better understand the mental and physical condition of the elderly, adapt to behavioral changes caused by illnesses such as Alzheimer’s and establish better communication and support strategies.
